Your question is one that many people, myself included, ask about the grace of God, the grace that saves us and the grace that sustains us. The answer begins with reminding ourselves how Christianity differs from other religions. According to C.S. Lewis the difference is that all other religions are about “do… do… do” but for the Christian it is done. Someone once asked Jesus what works they must do to be saved and Jesus said “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” (John 6:29). In other words, the practical application of grace is believing – believing, for example, Romans 8:32, “He who did not spare his own son but gave him up for us all – how will he not also, along with him graciously give us all things.” And when we focus on how great is the love of the father, we are changed by his amazing grace.
