Kidway Volunteer Spotlight: Rose Koehler

This month, for our volunteer spotlight, I would like to introduce you to Rose Koehler. I love Rose’s heart to serve and am privileged to have her our on our Kidway volunteer team! Rose and her husband, Brandon, have been attending Gateway for about 5 years. They have 3 children: Madison (11), Hayden (8) and Cailtin (6). Rose has been serving in our Next Gen ministry for several years and is currently teaching the 3rd grade group during the 10:45am service at our County Road 9 campus. She is also involved with the Tuesday morning ladies’ Bible study which she initially attended to connect with other ladies at Gateway, but last year she began leading one of the small groups during the Bible study.

Rose has always enjoyed working with kids but says that working in Kidway really helped her get to know other people from Gateway. She said, “It was at this point Gateway didn’t seem so big.” The curriculum we use for all our children’s classes ages 2 - 8th grade is called The Gospel Project published by Lifeway. It chronologically cycles through the entire Bible every 3 years. One thing that Rose enjoys the most about serving in Kidway is learning with the kids and going through the Bible in chronological order. She shared, “My co-teacher last year did a great job recapping our past stories, and I have now added this to my teaching time, too.” Rose also enjoys getting to know the kids and always has a good laugh with some of the stories the children tell about things that happen at home. She said, “Don’t worry, Adam and Tori Borsay, your stories are safe with us! I’m pretty sure my own kids tell some similar stories to their teachers.”

When not serving in Kidway, Rose enjoys being with her husband and kids, spending time outdoors and cooking. She said, “My kids would tell you my favorite store is Krogers, but I really have enjoyed my increased time in God’s word.” If you are feeling a tug to serve but haven’t taken the plunge yet, Rose would encourage you to come and observe a Kidway class a couple times. She believes it is much easier to start teaching in Kidway as an assistant.
