When the schools were first closed, we learned that there were approximately 65 students at Liberty-Benton that were already getting food sent home with them on the weekends to make sure they were able to eat a small meal when they were away from school. We met with the elementary and middle school principals to see how we could help provide for these students during the week.
For the past four weeks, our Gateway community has provided food that has been sorted and put into bags for the principals to deliver to each student personally. We started with 65 bags, but the past two weeks we have packed 80 bags.
Each week we get reports back from the principals about how excited the students are for the food and how thankful the parents are as well. If you would like to help with these bags, you can sign up to donate here. Donations are due to County Road 9 by 3:00 on Wednesdays.
