In his book Confronting Injustice without Compromising Truth, author and scholar Thaddeus J. Williams addresses the changing culture and how Christians should respond by asking themselves one simple question, “Is my view of sexuality an expression of Creator- or creation-worship?” This is a key question that each follower of Christ must answer for themselves. As the debate over gender identity grows, the church must decide, based on God’s Word, how it will respond. At Gateway Church, our goal is to remain faithful to God’s Word while doing so in love. In Ephesians 4:15, the Apostle Paul is addressing a church in a similar culture like ours by encouraging them to continue to show the love of Christ to those around them while remaining faithful to what they know is true. Paul writes, “Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. (NLT)”
As hard as it can be at times to take a stand for truth in a culture where the ideological landscape is constantly shifting, Gateway Church remains faithful to the truth of Scripture and its view on the issue of sexuality. Believing that all people are created in the image of God, the author of Genesis writes, “In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them (Gen. 1:27, NLT).” Striving to worship God alone as Creator and to celebrate the fact that each person fearfully and wonderfully made in His image (Psalm 139:14), both male and female, the Elders and staff at Gateway Church have, in love, developed a policy which will guide our response to the issue of gender. If you would like to know more, you can read it here. For to God alone belongs all the glory.
