Letter from Resurrection Church Beirut

For our 2019 Christmas Eve Offering, one of the 4 ministries in focus is the current effort to meet the ever increasing needs of Syrian and Iraqi refugees in Lebanon. The country is in a deepening crisis with its people protesting a government that they consider corrupt and inattentive to the needs of its people. For more information on what is happening in this New York Times article.

As a result, the Resurrection Church of Beirut finds itself in an increasingly crucial role, striving to meet the needs of those now without jobs, clothing and food. The following is an email we received from RCB’s communications department a few days ago, explaining the current situation and asking us to consider assisting them in bringing an answer to the suffering in Jesus name.

Greetings to you this Christmas season from Beirut.

As a valued partner in ministry, we write to you this email to draw your attention at this time of the year to our current situation in Beirut, the needs that exists, and the plans we have ahead for the coming months and year 2020.

As you might have heard on the news, the situation in Lebanon is very serious and everyone is afraid. The political situation is in a state of flux as the protestors are calling for radical changes to the people and processes of government. This creates a fear of violence and great uncertainty. The economic situation is deteriorating every day and people are losing their jobs or receiving just half of their salaries. Banks and the government are running out of options and even cash is in short supply. Layoffs and short pay are happening every day and in large numbers. Prices are rising and businesses are closing. Lebanese families are struggling. More so are the 1,000+ refugee families that we are already serving.

Amongst all this, Resurrection Church is reaching out with messages of Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace to all of the community through all its platforms. There are many different ministries ongoing every week in discipleship, youth work, training leaders, and the normal running of the church. Also, we continue to help the refugee community with all their physical needs (food vouchers, medical fees, clothing, hygiene and baby milk etc.). Additionally, we are seeking to provide help for the local Lebanese families as well in the midst of all these struggles. That is why we are reaching out to all our friends and partners to consider this Christmas, giving towards the ministry here in Beirut. And above all, please, we ask you to pray. Pray that the Church in Lebanon will shine with Hope, Peace, Love, and Joy during these hard times, drawing all people towards Jesus and the salvation that he brought into the earth when he was born.

Many blessings and Merry Christmas!

Please consider how God can use you to meet the needs of people without countries, homes and jobs in Lebanon. We have an opportunity to make a difference in our Christmas Eve Offering!
