On Saturday, September 9th, Pad Palooza was hosted by the ladies of Sew Quilt Share, an outreach of Gateway Church. Since female students in many third world countries miss a week of school each month because they lack access to feminine hygiene products, the main purpose of the event was to cut and sew reusable cloth feminine pads to support Mission Possible’s female students in the rural areas of Haiti.
The pattern and fabrics for this project were provided, but volunteers were needed for assembly. We are happy to report that a total of 477 cloth feminine pads were completed that day (enough to sponsor 39 girls), and several hundred more were cut out!
This past year, over five thousand cloth feminine pads were mailed to Gateway Church from all over the United States and as far away as England and New Zealand. The ladies of Sew Quilt Share are pleased to serve as a collection point for this outreach and are excited that a total of 489 young women in Haiti will be provided with the supplies they need to receive a Christian Education and learn about God’s great love for them.
An additional purpose for Pad Palooza was to open the doors of Gateway Church and invite our community to connect with us. More than fifty women of all ages answered the call to serve! We pray that seeds were sown which will draw many into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and are thankful God provided willing hearts and hands to make this event a success. Perhaps some of those hands belonged to you!
If you can trace around a pattern, cut with scissors, pin fabric, or run a sewing machine, there is a place for you to serve in the Sew Quilt Share ministry. Catch the vision, and attend our next meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 24th from 9:30-4:00. Follow us on Facebook and learn how you can help impact our community and beyond.
We would love to connect with you!
