2020 certainly had its challenges, but there have been many blessings in our lives to focus on. One of those blessings is an opportunity to serve others. Galatians 6:2 says, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” I wanted to share an awesome experience of just that, the opportunity to come alongside a new attendee of Gateway Church and help carry her load.
As a church body and a member of a Life Group, it is critical to take the time to look outside of our small groups and see the needs of others. A need was seen, some research was done, and within 24 hours, our Life Group was able to contact a mom of 4 kids to get sizes of clothes, shoes, winter coats, hats/gloves, boots, an item that the kids wanted that was not a need, and items that would help each one grow in their walks with the Lord. What an awesome experience it is when you ask God to open your heart and your eyes to see the needs around you, and you are able to show God’s love to others!
The response was just as amazing as the opportunity to serve. She wrote, “Thank you so much for thinking of me and my family. That means a lot to me! I have tears in my eyes even as I type this. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.” She went on to say, “It is a blessing to come to Gateway every Sunday. My children and I LOVE it. We look forward to it every week!!!!”
And that is not all! Through asking how she can get more involved with Gateway, and given an invitation to join our Life Group, she has made the choice to join our group. We have the opportunity to not only make lifelong friendships, but to come alongside this family and support them as they grow deeper in their walks with Christ.
