Summer Family Discipleship

What a crazy school year we have had! I am sure you are like me and are counting down the days until summer right along with your kids. Like every year, you are probably thinking summer is when you can relax, but then, before you know it, you will be off on a dead sprint till the end of August. Vacations, sports camps, tournaments, sun burns and mowing the lawn are just a few of the busy “busynesses” that take over. And maybe, like some of us, you will get back to the first day of school and wonder what happened to the summer and be worried that you didn’t utilize your family time well enough!

If you don’t want to get to the end of August and wonder what happened to the time, you need to MAKE A PLAN NOW!!! Good intentions will not lead to accomplishing good goals. Deliberate planning of priorities is the most important step you can take to get to the start of the school year in the way you are hoping.

To make a plan, you have to first state clearly what you want to prioritize! So let us challenge you with this “Summer Family Priorities Checklist” which will help you walk through a planning process that will allow you to not just get through summer, but to use the next few months to see your children grow in their faith (and you as well!!) Click on the link to the checklist and print it off for easy reference.

Suggested Family Priorities (In Order of Importance!!)

  1. Growing in our faith
  2. Family Time (Vacation, relationship building)
  3. Friendship investments
  4. Skill development (sports, music, etc.)

While there is no perfect parenting plan, we should always be striving after growing in our skills to lead our family well. Summer is a great time to up our games and to honor God with our personal and family priorities. Thanks for loving your kids well!
