Discussion on the book The Gathering Storm by Al Mohler, Jr.

Have you personally felt the demands to abandon doctrines in your preaching? (10:20)

If churches see that giving in to secular demands causes people to leave the church, why do they keep doing it? (16:25)

When people talk about abortion it can be an emotionally charged talk that gets no one anywhere. It can also seem so overwhelming of an issue. What are some practical things we can do to stand for the sanctity of life? I know that we have families at Gateway that foster and/or have adopted. Who should we contact if we want to see how we can help those families? (27:30)

As Christians we are certainly confused by all that has strayed from God's design, but I feel like we are also confused on how to deal with it. How do we as Christians interact with those of the LBGTQ? Are they welcome in our church? Should we do business with them? How do we lovingly create relationships with them to show them Jesus? Jesus did not avoid sinners, but he went to them, ate with them, and taught them. (33:55)

We are committed as a church to raise up the next generation of leaders, pastors, and faithful, and that starts when the next generation are kids. We have a great kidway program and a great youth group program but we need more volunteers. If kids see that others in the church (not just their parents) are invested in them, then there is a greater chance that they will not leave the faith when they leave the home. What are some ways the members of Gateway can help raise up the next generation? Are students welcome in the Equip classes? (42:35)

Mohler mentions many times the link between the secular movement and the invention of contraceptives. Does he believe that it is unbiblical to use contraceptives? (47:00)

My primary reaction to the book is how do we approach the United States as a current day mission field? What works? Many in my generation longingly seek to re-establish practices and a culture that we grew up in, believing this would solve the ills we are experiencing as Christians. It is clear this is not a viable solution and we waste significant effort and time on wishing it were so. (52:30)

Final Thought (1:03:00)
