Volunteer Spotlight: Mazie Chapin

There are lots of ways to serve at Gateway, and we are extremely thankful for each of our volunteers.  This week, we chatted with Mazie Chapin who volunteers with our youth as she shared what she loves about working with Gateway youth.

How long have you attended Gateway?...been a volunteer in Gateway’s Next Gen ministry?

I have attended Gateway for about 6 years and just started with the youth 1 year ago.

In what capacity do you volunteer?

I help lead a 6th grade girls youth group and also volunteer on Sunday mornings in the Attic.

Why did you initially volunteer to serve with kids/youth?

I just had such a passion for sharing Jesus with others. I have always loved kids and most of my experience was toddler/early elementary age, but I just felt such a pull to invest in middle schoolers.

What do you enjoy most about serving with kids/youth?

Building relationships with them and watching them build healthy relationships with each other.

Do you have a favorite ministry memory of working with students at Gateway?

My favorite memory so far has been taking the kids to snow tube this winter. Also, the 6th grade girls came to Kara’s house on a Friday night, and we all just loved spending time together!

What do you enjoy doing when you are not connecting kids to Jesus Christ and to one another?

I enjoy being outside. Spending time with my dog, friends, family and boyfriend. Traveling and eating good food.

What would you say to someone who has been feeling a tug to serve, but who hasn’t taken the plunge yet?

I would say that God doesn’t call the qualified, he qualifies the called. If you are feeling a tug to serve, that is God speaking to you! Your relationship with Him will grow, and He will show up to you in ways you couldn’t imagine!
